The dunes of Maspalomas

Imagine stepping into a world sculpted by wind and time. That's exactly what the breathtaking Reserva Natural Especial de Las Dunas de Maspalomas offers. Spanning 400 hectares between Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, this serene expanse of golden sands is more than a backdrop for your sunbathing sessions. As you wander through the dunes, you'll feel like you're walking through a shifting desert, right by the ocean.

The beaches of Maspalomas

are nothing short of magical. Whether you're there for sunbathing, sandcastle-building, or simply absorbing the natural beauty, the coastline here invites relaxation and enjoyment. Playa de Maspalomas stretches along the dunes, connecting you effortlessly with the vibrant Playa del Inglés. The sand here is perfect for lounging, while the gentle waves call out to surfers and swimmers alike.

The iconic Maspalomas Lighthouse

stands guardianship in the distance, a fitting backdrop to this surreal landscape. One of my favorite memories involves wandering through the oasis-like pockets of palm trees that occasionally interrupt the sands, offering shade and serenity. The temporary lagoons add an element of surprise, attracting migrating birds and giving the whole area an African safari-like feeling.

What's a holiday without a bit of excitement? Maspalomas offers several theme parks that are perfect for creating unforgettable memories. Here are a few must-visit spots:

Aqualand: If you're a fan of water parks, Aqualand Maspalomas is where you want to be. The array of slides—from the adrenaline-pumping Boomerang to the laid-back Congo River—will have you cheering with joy. The park is perfect for all ages and the ideal place to cool off from the island heat.

Palmitos Park: Nestled in a lush valley, Palmitos Park is a botanical garden and aviary offering a peaceful retreat from the beach. The dolphin show here is a must-see, and the exotic birds will have your camera working overtime. It's a wonderful spot for nature lovers looking to enjoy a quieter day.

Holiday World: Feeling a bit more energetic? Holiday World is Maspalomas' own carnival, complete with a Ferris wheel, thrilling rides, and an arcade. Don't miss the bowling alley and the dance floor if you're looking to let loose a bit.

Maspalomas has plenty of shopping options

to soothe your retail cravings. Here are some highlights:

  • Yumbo Centrum:  Known for its lively atmosphere and diverse array of shops, bars, and restaurants.
  • Cita Shopping Center: Offers a mix of international and local shops, located in Playa del Inglés.
  • Faro 2 Shopping Center: Close to the Maspalomas Lighthouse, though now less bustling.
  • El Tablero Shopping Center: A bit further from the coast, offering a more local shopping experience.
  • Varadero Shopping Center: Near Meloneras and the lighthouse, featuring high-end and designer brands.
  • Maspalomas Market: Held twice a week, this market offers everything from local produce to handicrafts.

Just a short distance from Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés is the go-to spot for nightlife. Known for its vibrant scene and inclusive atmosphere, especially during the Maspalomas Pride festival, this area promises plenty of action. Head to the Yumbo Centre for a mix of bars, clubs, and late-night fun.
