Exploring Gran Canaria
Discover Gran Canaria's Ruta Centro
Closer to the Sky at Roque Nublo
Our first stop is the iconic Roque Nublo, standing tall at around 1,900 meters above sea level. Reaching the highest peak of Gran Canaria, we felt like we could almost touch the sky. The trek up is a mix of towering ravines and lush valleys, all blessed by unique climatic conditions that foster endless palm groves and pine forests.
These pine forests are part of the island's Biosphere Reserve, protecting the natural beauty that makes this route extra special. Buddy's tail never stopped wagging as we breathed in the fresh, crisp air and took in the incredible vistas.
The Spectacle of Tejeda and Roque Nublo
One of the most breathtaking sights on this route is the Tejeda Basin. Imagine clouds gently pushed by trade winds, creating a magical optical illusion as they brush against the ravines and slopes. This phenomenon, seen in only a few places worldwide, gives you the feeling of walking through a dreamscape.
Standing at the base of Roque Nublo, you can't help but feel like an astronaut exploring another universe. This colossal rock, born of volcanic fire, is one of Gran Canaria's most significant symbols.

Our journey took us through the municipalities of Santa Brígida, Vega de San Mateo, Tejeda, Artenara, Valleseco, and Teror. Each town had its unique charm, but all shared the stunning backdrop of Gran Canaria's mountains and valleys.
Charming Villages and Local Delights
As we journeyed further, we stumbled upon some of Spain's most beautiful villages nestled in the heart of Gran Canaria. Our favorite? Definitely Tejeda, where every corner offered a new visual treat.
One must-visit spot is Teror, home to the famous "Chorizo de Teror." , I savored this local delicacy. Teror is not just about food; it's a melting pot of Gran Canaria's history and culture. We explored the charming streets lined with Canarian architecture and visited the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pino, the island's patron saint. Declared a Cultural Heritage Site in 1977, this basilica is a must-see.
Exploring More of the Ruta Centro
Barranco de la Mina, San Mateo: loved wandering through the Barranco de la Mina in San Mateo, where nature takes center stage, showcasing some of the island's most striking landscapes.
Sunsets Among the Mountains: As the day drew to a close, we found ourselves at Montañón Negro, enjoying one of the most spectacular sunsets. The sky turned into a canvas of vibrant colors, making it a picture-perfect moment to end our adventure.
